Obituary for Milford "Russ" Smith

Milford Russell Smith, 85 of Collins, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Russ was born November 13, 1932, in Milan, Missouri, the son of Harold and Lena (Corbin) Smith. On September 5, 1953, he was united in marriage to Mary Boozell. Russ worked for Pittsburgh Des Moines Steele for 40 years as a welder and painter. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, tinkering in his garage, fishing and spending time with his family.

Russ is survived by his wife Mary of Collins; his sons: Alan (Deb) Smith of Colo and Kim Smith of Collins; his daughters: Phyllis Steiner of Collins and Karen (Scott) Schnicker of Des Moines; four brothers: Rex Smith, George (Jan) Smith, Ronnie (Marica) Smith and Jerry (Marilyn) Smith; a sister, Melva Allison; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and special in-laws: Betty Breer and Irvin Boozell. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons: Randy and Donnie Smith; a brother, Ray Smith; and two sisters: Millie Adcock and Amber Hickle.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Scott Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Collins Evergreen Cemetery in Collins. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
