Darrell L. Myers, 88, of Nevada died Sunday, November 9, 2003 at Story County Long Term Care in Nevada. Darrell was born April 6, 1915 north of Colo, Iowa, the son of Guy and Olive (Jones) Myers. He was united in marriage to Josephine Wilson of March 1, 1936 at Dawson, Iowa. Darrell had worked as a lineman for 29 years for IES and retired in 1981. Darrell was a veteran of WWII having served with the Army in the Pacific Theatre. He was member of the Maxwell Presbyterian Church, the Maxwell American Legion, former volunteer firemen in Maxwell and a former member of the Maxwell Lions Club. He spent 17 winters in Arizona where he enjoyed new friends and the weather. His greatest joy in his later years were his family and especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Josephine of Nevada; his daughters: Mary Jo (Ron) Achey of Marion, Iowa, Kathy (Don) Erickson of Nevada, Iowa, Tina (Mike) Dahlke of Cambridge, Iowa, Marilyn (Tim) Trees of Webster City, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 2 step-granddaughters; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sons: Jon in 1973, Thomas and Kevin in infancy; and a brother, Donald Myers. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Wednesday at the Nevada Christian Church with Pastor Larry French officiating. The Maxwell American Legion will give military honors. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3:00 pm Tuesday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. The family will be present 7:00 - 8:30 pm to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Darrell L. Myers Memorial Fund.
