MAXWELL - Doris Marie Canney, 85, of Maxwell, Iowa, died October 8, 2007 at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, Iowa. Services will be held Thursday, October 11, 2007 at 10:00 o'clock at St. Mary's Holy Cross Catholic Church near Elkhart, Iowa. There will be a Rosary at 6:30 pm and visitation from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell, on Wednesday, October 10th. Doris was born January 30, 1922 in Maxwell, Iowa to Edward Andrew and Huldah (Finley) Stebbins. She graduated from Maxwell High School in 1940 and was united in marriage to Marvin "Bob" Canney in Maxwell on September 10, 1940. She was a member of St. Mary's Holy Cross Church, a member of the Altar & Rosary Society and the Polka Club of Iowa. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed dancing and playing cards. Doris is survived by her son, Robert (Martha) Canney of Janesville, Iowa; a daughter, Charlotte (Dave) McHone of Maxwell, Iowa; four sisters: twin sister, Dorothy Pihl of Altoona, Wisconsin, Leona Pihl of Augusta, Wisconsin, Maxine Viers of Maxwell, Iowa and Opal Geesaman of Urbandale, Iowa; seven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Donna Smith Frank, two brothers: Finley and Lester Stebbins; three sisters: Hazel Hurst, Elsie Garner and Evelyn Alder. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to St. Mary's Holy Cross Catholic Church in Elkhart. Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
