Obituary

AMES- Dorothy Mae Snyder, 81, of rural Ames, died Tuesday, November 29, 2005 at home after a lengthy illness. According to her wishes, no visitation or services are planned. Her remains have been cremated and burial will be at a later date. Dorothy was born at Eureka, Kansas on April 25, 1924, the daughter of Noah and Verna (Downer) Old. She graduated from Excelsior High School in Bellflower, California. She married Marvin R. Snyder on January 2, 1943. The first 20 years of her married life, she lived in many states while following her husband's career in the Navy. She was a wonderful homemaker and later in life was employed at ISU in the food service. She loved to cook, watch birds and squirrels, and all wild life. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 62 years, Marvin, of Ames; t children: Marilyn (Ron) Carr of Ames, Marvin (Pam) Snyder of Huxley; 2 grandchildren: Linda (Don) Mahoney of Des Moines, Pam (Steve) Shafer of Germany; 6 great grandchildren; one brother: Jim (Hazel) Old of Yates Center, Kansas; one brother-in-law: Owen Dewey of Yates Center, Kansas, and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Vivian Dewey and Jesse Merrell; and one brother: Bud Old. The Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
