Obituary

MAXWELL - Dorothy Weatherman, 83, of Maxwell, died June 19, 2007 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Dorothy Theulen was born December 25, 1923 at Bayard, Iowa, the second oldest in a line of three sisters (Evelyn, Juanita and Norma) and one brother Charles, Jr.) of Charles and Elma (Main) Theulen. Dorothy's father, Charlie, worked for the Milwaukee Railroad, and her mother stayed at home. She attended school in Bayard through the eighth grade and continued her schooling in Defiance, Iowa. After high school, Dorothy was united in marriage to Clarence Gregerson on June 23, 1941. Dorothy knew Clarence from her neighborhood and he also happened to work for Dorothy's father at the railroad. Dorothy and Clarence had four sons together; Dennis, Ronald, Clarence, and Larry. Clarence died July 3, 1967 from a massive heart attack while vacationing in Minnesota. Dorothy married Jimmie Weatherman on March 8, 1969. Dorothy lived two blocks away from Jim, but had never met him until they met at a VFW party, and Jim gave Dorothy a ride home. One of the places Dorothy and Jim enjoyed going was to Las Vegas. Dorothy and Jim flew out there once and drove several times to Las Vegas. Jimmie died May 21, 2002. When it came to working, Dorothy had a job that many Iowans has as their first job: detasseling. "It was horrible and a hard job," Dorothy would say as she grimaced from the recollection of the bitter memory. Next she went to work at Donnelley's where she worked for 14 years. She held various jobs there within the company. She started in the mailing room, had various jobs in the bindery, and also was a machine operator. Dorothy was a member of the Maxwell United Methodist Church, the Maxwell United Methodist Women, the Order of the Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary; the VFW Auxiliary; and the Maxwell Monday Night Federated Study Club. She enjoyed crafts, cross-stitching and collecting spoons. Dorothy is survived by 3 sons: Dennis (Marilyn) Gregerson of Columbus, Ohio, Ronald (Virginia) Gregerson of Manila, Iowa, Larry Gregerson of Indianapolis, Indiana; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and a sister: Juanita McCool of Tennant, Iowa. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a son: Clarence "Butch" Gregerson; 2 sisters: Evelyn Chapman, Norma Krantz; and a brother: Charles Theulen. Funeral services will be 1:30 Friday at the Maxwell United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Maxwell Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6:30-8:00 PM Thursday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Memorials may be made to the Israel Family Hospice of Ames. Bacon Funeral Home of Maxwell is handling arrangements.
