COLLINS - Gladys Rhoads, 79, of Collins, died at her home Saturday, August 9, 2008. Gladys was born August 4, 1929 at Colo, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Mabel (Fry) Tripp. She attended school in Nevada, Iowa. On November 8, 1946, she was united in marriage to Charles Rhoads in Nevada. Charles preceded Gladys in death on June 1, 1991. Gladys was a homemaker. She was a member of the Collins Christian Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and a former member of the Mesa, Arizona Red Hat Ladies. For many years, Gladys wintered in Arizona. Gladys loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was avid bowler, doll collector, and enjoyed crocheting and playing cards, especially Bridge. She was also an avid Phoenix Suns Basketball fan. Gladys is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Rick and Ellen Rhoads of Collins, IA; 3 daughters and sons-in-law: Carla and Bob Kohlwes of Ankeny, IA, Deb and Mark Baldwin of Mingo, IA, Michelle and Lee Huntrods of Rhodes, IA; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters: Bonnie Smith of Mesa, AZ, Shirley Robinson of Colo, IA; 2 sisters-in -law: Dorothy Rhoads of Phoenix, AZ, Elizabeth Rhoads of Hubbard, IA; and brother and sister-in-law: Joe and Alverda Rhoads of Collins, IA and many nieces and nephews. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and 4 brothers-in-law: Lester Smith, Doyle Robinson, Virgil Doud, Harold Rhoads; and a sister-in-law: Doris Doud Wiley. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday at the Collins Christian Church. Interment will be in the Collins Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 PM Tuesday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada, IA. Memorials may be made to Collins Christian Church.
