Obituary

Helen Weller Cady, 84, of Ames Iowa, passed away on July 29, 2017 after a brief battle with leukemia. A memorial service will be held Friday August 18, at 2:00 pm at Northcrest Community in Ames. She was born September 17, 1932 to Walter Lionel Weller and Margaret (Boyd) Weller. The family lived in New York City for most of the year, and spent the summer months in Newport, Rhode Island where she had many fond memories of picnics on the beach with her family. After graduating from Rogers High School in Newport, Helen attended nursing school at Flower-Fifth Avenue Hospital in New York City. In 1977 Helen completed her Masters in Nursing from the University of Kentucky. Throughout her career she specialized in mental health nursing. In 1953, she married Foster Cady. They had three children together and lived in many places including Illinois, North Carolina, Iowa, Mexico, Kentucky, New York, Hawaii, and Washington D.C. In 1993, they returned to Iowa and made their home in Nevada. Helen was very passionate about hospice nursing and volunteered at Israel Family Hospice House for over 20 years. She also had deep interests in gardening and observing nature. She was active in the Nevada Methodist Church and the Northminster Presbyterian Church of which she was a founding member. She is survived by her three children: Susan Cady Bryant of Oxford, NC; William (Paula) Cady of Colo, IA; and David (Terri) Cady of Scottsville, VA. Six grandchildren: Sam (Laura) Cady, Thomas Bryant, James Cady, Lara Cady, Janet Cady, and Joseph Cady; and one great-grandchild: Jack Cady. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Israel Family Hospice House, 400 S. Dakota Ave. Ames, IA 50014. Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
