Obituary

MITCHELLVILLE - Jewel Myrl (Fitchpatrick) McGinnis, 102, of Mitchellville, went to be with the Lord Saturday, September 17, 2005. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Wednesday at the Farrar United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Farrar Cemetery. Visitation with family will be 6:00 - 8:00 pm Tuesday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Memorials may be made to the Mitchell Village Care Center. Jewel was born August 7, 1903 at Lockwood, Missouri, the daughter of James Thomas and Eva Nora (Barker) Fitchpatrick. On August 3, 1924, she was united in marriage to Jim McGinnis. Jim preceded her in death March 27, 1970. Three sons were born to this union, Wayne, Bill and Jerry. They moved to the Farrar area on February 12, 1930 where they worked on a farm until moving into Farrar on February 18, 1954. Jewel worked at the Farrar Community School as one of the cooks from 1955 to 1970. Jewel moved to Nevada in the summer of 1981 and later to Altoona before moving to Mitchellville. She pieced many beautiful quilts, one for every son and every grandchild. After 90 years of age, she crocheted a quilt for every great-grandchild. She was a loving person, a homemaker who loved working in the garden and with her flowers. She is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law: Bill and Doris McGinnis of Altoona, Jerry and Terry McGinnis of Boone; 12 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Melvin Wayne McGinnis in 2004, a brother: Earl M. Fitchpatrick; and 3 sisters: Edith Ray and Willie Pearl in their childhood, and Rosa Rhoads. The Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell is handling arrangements.
