CAMBRIDGE - John Lewis, 78, of Cambridge, died Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny. John was born December 28, 1927, at Cambridge, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Hilda (Lee) Lewis. He graduated from Huxley High School in 1945 and attended Iowa State Teachers College. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. John was united in marriage to Ione Elizabeth Miller on January 24, 1953 in Ames, Iowa. John farmed near Cambridge until retiring. He was an active member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church of Cambridge. He enjoyed his family, reading and playing cards. John is survived by his wife, Ione, of Cambridge; a daughter and son-in-law: Kathy and Larry Shaeffer of Des Moines, Iowa; three sons and a daughter-in-law: Mark Lewis of Cambridge, and his fiancee, Eileen Young, Steve and Becky Lewis of Collins, David Lewis of Cambridge; 7 grandchildren; a sister: Viola Van Gilder of Seattle, Washington; and a brother and sister-in-law: Truman and Deloris Lewis of Urbandale. John was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters: Norma Lewis and Doris Lewis. Memorial services will be 10:00 am Saturday at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cambridge. Inurnment will be in the Cambridge Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Nazareth Lutheran Church. The Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory in Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
