Obituary

Kathryn Bess Kirk Kathryn Bess Kirk, 87, lifelong resident of Maxwell, Iowa, died April 13, 2007 at Solon Nursing Care Center where she had been in nearly constant company with her children for the past two weeks. Visitation is from 6:30 - 8:00 PM on Monday, April 16, 2007 at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday at the Bacon Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Maxwell Cemetery. Kathryn Bess Cuff Kirk, daughter of Kathryn Leone Martin and Arthur John Cuff was born September 29, 1919 in Portland, Oregon, and migrated as a child to Maxwell, Iowa. She met Robert Winston Kirk while living in Maxwell and they were married on September 1, 1940. They spent the next 56 years together in Maxwell raising three children and pursuing their love of fishing. They passed that passion on to their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kathryn studied business in Des Moines, Iowa following graduation from Maxwell High School. She later applied her education working at the Drake University Divinity School and at Story County Hospital in Nevada, Iowa. Kathryn is survived by her three children: Julie Kay Kirk Hegmann (Husband Joe Hegmann) of Iowa City, IA; John Robert Kirk (Wife Beth Temple) of Rock Island, IL; and Bruce Irving Kirk (Wife Renee Vinz) of Altoona, IA. She leaves seven grieving grandchildren: Theresa Hegmann of Iowa City, IA, Cynthia Derleth of Madison, WI, Rebecca Richardson of Billings, MT, Scott Kirk of Rochester, NY, Tye Kirk of Santa Monica, CA, Brannon Kirk of North Port, FL, and Jennie Kirk of Rock Island, Il. Her 4 gre4at-grandchildren: Heather Murphy, Natasha Hegmann, Nicholas Richardson, and Nathan Richardson will miss her smiles and her encouragement. Kathryn will be missed by her sister-in-law and near life long friend, Pauline Cuff, of Maxwell, Iowa. Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband: Bob Kirk; her brother: Dick Cuff; and her grandson: Chad Michael Kirk. Memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice (who helped make her last days comfortable) and to the Maxwell Museum, which Kathryn was involved with for many years.
