NEVADA - Leo L. Baker, 92, formerly of Nevada, died Monday, February 9, 2004 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown where he has been a resident the past 7 years.
Leo was born August 6, 1911 in Nevada, Iowa the son of Oscar and Lillie (Bryant) Baker. Leo graduated from Nevada High School and from AIB in Des Moines. He was a newspaper printer and had worked for the "Nevada Representative", the "Nevada Journal", Des Moines Register" and the "El Paso Times." He retired in Texas in 1976. Leo was a veteran having served with the Army Engineers in New Guinea during WWII. Leo was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, Iowa; the American Legion, William F. Ball Post # 48 of Nevada; the Disabled Veterans, El Paso, Texas; and the Communications Workers of America/Printing Union.
Leo is survived bya sister: Lucille Bowers of Galveston, Texas; 1 niece: Marilyn of Montgomery, Texas; 3 nephews: Ron Fincham of Nevada, Iowa, Ralph Bowers of Galveston, Texas, Martin Bowers of Dallas, Texas; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
His parents and a sister, Vera Fincham, preceded him in death.
Graveside services will be 11:00 Friday at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery with Pastor David Burling officiating. The American Legion William F. Ball Post #48 of Nevada will give military Honors.
Visitation will be 1:00 - 8:00 pm Thursday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.
