Obituary

MAXWELL - Leonard Richard Wales, 71, of Maxwell, Iowa, died February 2, 2006 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Leonard was born June 10, 1934 at Bussey, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Mable (Edinger) Wales. He was united in marriage to Viola Stewart on June 1, 1956. Leonard served in the Army between 1957 and 1959. He had worked at Armstrong Tire in Des Moines for 36 years. He retired in 1992. Leonard was also a farmer and cattleman. He was a member of the Loring United Methodist Church, the Maxwell Casey's Morning Coffee Club, and was a Rainbow Seed Corn Salesman. Leonard enjoyed his farm and cattle, helping his neighbors and brothers, and teasing his entire family. Leonard is survived by his wife Viola, of Maxwell, Iowa; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Terry Wales of Maxwell, Iowa, Donald (Dianne) Wales of Maxwell, Iowa; two daughters and sons-in-law: Marcy (John) Stringer of Des Moines, Iowa, Janet (Elias) Alvarez of Moore, Oklahoma; 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers: Bob Wales and John Wales, both of Bussey, Iowa, Kenneth Wales of Akron, Iowa; and 5 sisters: Letha Holfer of Texas, Lora Newton of Des Moines, Iowa, Virgie Hodson of Des Moines, Iowa, Esther Kooyman of Bondurant, Iowa and Ila Joseph of California. Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Monday at the Loring United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Mount Zion Cemetery at Loring. Visitation with the family will be 3:00 - 6:00 pm Sunday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Memorials may be made to the Loring United Methodist Church.
