Obituary

NEVADA – Loy Black, 83, of Nevada, died of cancer, Sunday, July 17, 2011, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada. Loy was born December 20, 1927 in Richland Township, near Nevada, the son of Emory and Vera (Davis) Black. He graduated from Fernald High School in 1945. Loy was united in marriage to Helen Moser on December 22, 1948 in the Nevada Methodist Church. He farmed in Richland Township until 1971, and then went to work for Ryerson Implement. He then drove the feed truck for the Heart of Iowa Coop until his retirement. Loy had served on the Story County Fairboard, the Sheriff's Reserve, was a 4-H leader, and on the Methodist Church board. He enjoyed visiting and having that cup of coffee with friends. Loy also enjoyed camping and playing cribbage like it was the only game in town. Mostly, he just enjoyed visiting with anyone about anything, but the ears perked up when the conversation turned to farming. Loy is survived by his wife, Helen, of Nevada; four children: Michael (Joan) Black of Nevada, Rick Black of Nevada, Sheryl (Brian) Birchmier of Maxwell, Suzanne (Terry) Reams of Eureka, MO; nine grandchildren: Michelle (Adam) Gibson, Derrick (Shellie) Black, Jerrad (Tena) Black, Chris Mechtel, Tyler (Kayla Schuler) Longren, Kyle (Madison Diehl) Longren, Jessica Birchmier, Evan Reams, Matthew Reams; eight great-grandchildren: Samantha, Alexis, Aubrey, Madalyn, Sydney, Derik, Jacalyn, Thia; one brother: Roy (Janet) Black, and one sister-law: Mary Ada Black. Loy was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson: Shane; a sister, Marilyn Faulkner, and a brother, Floyd Black. Memorial Services will be 10:30 Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 PM Tuesday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.
