WEST DES MOINES - Martha "Martie" Marie Thompson, 59, of West Des Moines, Iowa died Saturday, August 5, 2005 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. She was born October 23, 1945 in Osceola, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Mary Virgene (Cole) DeLong. Her grandparents, Forest and Marie Cole of Osceola, Iowa, supported her throughout her life. Martie was a nurse, having earned a masters' degree from Drake Universityin nursing. She had worked for Visiting Nurse Services until retiring due to her health. She was affiliated with the Johnston Evangelical Free Church and was a member of the Iowa Nurses Association. She is survived by two daughters: Rhonda Marsden and Lisa Thompson, both of Mesa, Arizona; one brother: Steven DeLong of Trinidad, Colorado; and four sisters: Becky Jurgens of Forest City, IA, Mary Davis of Johnston, IA, Marcee Beckett of Johnston, IA and Jeon Trabing of Indianola, IA. Her parents and grandparents preceded her in death. A time of gathering and remembering will be held 7:00-10:00PM, Thursday at the Johnston Evangelical Free Church located at 9901 NW 62nd Avenue in Johnston.
