William "Bill" Davis, 79, of Maxwell, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Bill was born May 21, 1934, in Clarence, Iowa to John and Dean Davis. He was united in marriage to Mary Tipton on January 19, 1957, in Anamosa, Iowa. Bill served in the United States Marine Corps and was a member of St. Mary/Holy Cross Parish in Elkhart, Carpenters Local #106 and the VFW in Maxwell. Bill enjoyed building things, gardening and fishing. Bill is survived by his wife, Mary of Maxwell; his son, Mike (Deb) Davis of Burlington; his daughter, Theresa Backstrom of Maxwell; his grandchildren, John, Jeremy, Dylan, Katy, Krissey and Rickey; five great-grandchildren, his brother, Jim Davis; and his sister, Ruth Grisham. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, Steven. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2013, at Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell (422 1st Street) with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2013, at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Nevada (1110 11th Street). Burial with military honors will be 2 p.m. at the Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary/Holy Cross Parish in loving memory of Bill.
