Alvin "Wayne" Wright, 87 of Ames, died Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Wayne was born December 9, 1935, in Algiers, IN, the son of Arthur Luther and Tina Ellen (Woodall) Wright. He graduated from Ottwell High School in Indiana, and he enlisted in the United States Army, serving 21 years, earning the rank of Sgt 1st Class E7 upon retirement. On April 12, 1957, Wayne was united in marriage to Nancy Armes in Washington, Indiana. After his discharge from the Army, he earned a degree from Faith Bible College in 1980. Wayne then went to work for UPS, retiring in 2001.

Wayne was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Cambridge and the VFW.

Wayne is survived by his son, Matthew (Lisa) Wright of Kelley; his daughter, Donna Lobb of Aurora, MN; his step-son; his sisters, Carolyn Hoover of Washington, IN and Betty Bailey of Temple, TX; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his son-in-law, Nathan Lobb; his sister, Susanna Jones; and his step-son, Jim Bohn.

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, January 9, 2023, at Faith Baptist Church (401 2nd Street) in Cambridge with Pastor Jacob Saylor officiating. Family will greet friends beginning at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Cambridge Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church in memory of Wayne.
