Obituary

Amy Dykstra, 42 of Maxwell, Iowa passed away in her sleep on Sunday, September 27, 2020, after a long illness. Amy was born August 8, 1978, in Marshalltown, the daughter of Bryce Kent Dykstra and Andrea Leigh Schauper. She graduated from Maxwell High School in 1996 and earned her AAS from DMACC in 1998. Amy then went on to earn her Bachelor of Science, Sociology, Adult and of Family Services from Iowa State University in 2003 where she tutored several ISU football players. She then earned her Master of Science, Gerontology from the University of Massachusetts-Boston in 2008 during which time she was a research assistant. Amy had several jobs over her lifetime including a technical writer for Goold Heath Systems, data analyst manager at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and a program manager at Massachusetts Group Insurance Commission. She also worked on the ACA Implementation Team of Iowa at the Department of Human Services, worked as a project management specialist at Gold Heath Systems, Core Standardized Assessment at Telligen and a quality improvement data analyst at Wellcare. Amy and her brother Ben enjoyed many trips to beautiful destinations, enjoying the ocean, natural wonders, and local cuisine. Ben, being Amy's caretaker would send her IV's and boxed food for her feeding tube ahead of their stay and rented Amy a scooter to be more mobile. Recently, Amy was feeling good and she enjoyed cooking creative dinners and spoke about writing a recipe book. Though she continued with her medical treatments and physical therapy, she remained loving, caring and spiritually bright. Both Ben and Amy were deeply saddened by the passing of their mother, Andi Dykstra in 2015. Amy often would say that she wished she had one more minute with her and her family takes comfort in knowing that Amy is back in the embrace of her mom in heaven. Amy was preceded in death by her mother, Andi Dykstra. She is survived by her brother, Ben Dykstra; great-aunts: Clara Sparks, Karen Morgan and Cynde Schauper; her aunt, Julie Wierson; her uncle, Doug Wierson; her cousins: Chris Wierson (Mandy, Josie, Kenzi, Chloe and Cooper), Michael Wierson (Diedre, Ady, Annabelle and Cy, Joe Wierson (Kayle, Kentley and Kippton); her father, Bryce Dykstra and many other family and friends. Amy always ended her texts and phone calls with "I love you to the moon and back." We love you back in the same way. Sweet journey of peace, Amy. We will meet somewhere over the rainbow sweet sister.
