Andrew "Andy"
Grzelka
March 10, 1950 – August 7, 2023
Andrew Grzelka age 73, died on August 7, 2023, in Ames, Iowa. He was surrounded by his family when he took his final breath.
Andrew was born March 10, 1950 in Warsaw, Poland and immigrated to the U.S. at age 13 with his family. He graduated from the University of Illinois Chicago with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1972. He married Aldona "Donna" Sulewsk on December 28, 1973, in Chicago, Illinois.
Andrew began his lifelong career and love of engineering. He had a career he loved and was passionate about his profession. His career took him to many different states, until he made his final home in Nevada, Iowa. During his career he had numerous agricultural patents for his inventions; designing the first conveyors for combines. Andrew loved his job; he often told us he would work forever if he could. He finally retired from Danfoss when he turned 70. He needed a new passion and took up woodworking. In Andrew's usual fashion he became an expert, creating beautiful pieces for his family. He also became an active member of his church, setting up the livestream for the church during COVID. Providing the members of his parish a way to attend mass during lockdown. Andrew was active in the community and worked as an election official.
Andrew is survived by his spouse Aldona "Donna" Sulewsk, of fifty years. His brother Ted (Lisa). His nephews: Timothy (Hannah), Matthew, Jeffrey (Andrea) Grzelka, and Paul (fiancée Carol) Dambrowski and his niece, Cathy Dambrowski. He is preceded in death by his parents, Casimer and Mary Grzelka.
