Angelo's family moved to Chicago during WWII then returned to Iowa and opened the Nevada Candy Kitchen and the Rainbow Parlor, where Angelo helped his family. After graduating from Nevada High School in 1952, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan. After earning a B.S. from Iowa State University in 1962, Angelo used his military skills and education working for the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington, D.C. He also had a long career as a transportation planner with the Iowa Department of Transportation, retiring in 2002. Angelo met his wife, Jaye, while working for the CIA. After the birth of their first child, they moved back to Iowa to be closer to family.

His passions were geology, political history, geography, maps, and driving "back roads" through small towns. He loved sports and was the pitcher of fast-pitch softball teams. Angelo was a member of Vittoria Italian Lodge, community service groups, and St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Angelo loved his family and was very proud of his Italian heritage. He had an amazing memory and shared stories about his life up until the day he passed.
