Arlene Louise
Fry
December 29, 1951 – June 8, 2025
Arlene Louise Fry, 73, of Nevada, Iowa, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on December 29, 1951, in Sioux City, Iowa, Arlene was the cherished daughter of Floyd E. and Lorena Brown.
Arlene grew up in Nevada, Iowa, where she graduated from Nevada High School in 1970. She pursued her nursing degree at DMACC, embarking on a career that reflected her compassionate and caring nature. Following her nursing career, Arlene spent the remainder of her life raising her family. On February 13, 1972, she married Michael Fry in Nevada, beginning a loving partnership that spanned more than five decades. Known for her quick wit and her ability to keep Mike on his toes, Arlene brought vibrancy and warmth to those around her.
A devout member of the Nevada Seventh Day Adventist Church, Arlene embraced her faith deeply. She actively participated in the church choir and contributed to the Christmas program, fostering a sense of community and celebration. Her commitment to her church reflected her kindness and her desire to bring people together.
Arlene's greatest joy was being a Nana. She adored her grandchildren and relished every moment spent with them. Her family was her world, and she was a source of wisdom, love, and comfort to those who were fortunate to call her wife, mom, sister, or grandma. Together Mike and Arlene took care of over 40 foster children and adopted three of them. This incredible achievement had a significant impact on many lives.
Arlene is survived by her beloved husband, Mike Fry of Nevada; her children, Brett Fry, Shane Fry, Kari (Jack) Studebaker, Misty Breneman and Ben Fry; her treasured grandchildren, Shaelynn Wiederien, Lucas Fry, Lana Studebaker, Madalyn Studebaker, and Morgan Studebaker; and her sister, Bonnie Peterson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Lorena Brown.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate Arlene's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada. Family and friends are invited to gather from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Arlene will be laid to rest at Murphy Cemetery in rural Nevada.
