Arthur Smith, 87 of Nevada, died Monday, October 18, 2021, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. Arthur was born October 29, 1933, in Nevada, Iowa the son of Bernice and Beulah (Thompson) Smith. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1954. Arthur served in the Navy from 1955-1957 and upon his return, married Joyce Beard in Nevada, Iowa on May 31, 1958. Arthur worked for the Story County Roads Department for 30 years, retiring in 1995. He was a sports fan and enjoyed supporting ISU women's basketball and volleyball along with DMACC women's basketball. He cherished his cat, Buddy. Arthur and his family spent many years going to Clear Lake, and in his youth, he would spend time relaxing at his uncle's cabin. Arthur is survived by his daughter, Lorrie (Eric) Culp of Des Moines, Iowa; two grandchildren: Michael (Emily) Culp and Parker (Maggie) Culp; five great-grandchildren: Anax, Fia, Raina, Pixie and Hannah; and his brother, Bill Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife; Joyce Smith who passed in 2001, his parents; and one sister, Pat Haddock. A private burial will be held at Woodland Cemetery in Iowa Center. A reception will be held at The Regency Community Room in Nevada on Sunday, October 24th at 12:30 pm. Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
