Bettie Grace Schworm, 94, of Ames, passed away on October 21, 2018. In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated with no service. Bettie (Chance) Schworm was born on February 8, 1934. She was adopted as a young child by Mark and Julia (Grace) Chance. She grew up and graduated from high school in Redfield, Iowa. Bettie had a passion for life, in general, with a particular love of animals and all flowers and plants. Her yard was filled with all kinds of and there were always cats and dogs in her life. She had a special touch and talents with decorating and all kinds of crafts. Although she moved frequently in her life, Florida was her favorite place and she considered it home. Bettie was a "people" person and a friend to all, young and old. Her loyalty and helpfulness to those she loved never wavered. Bettie was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Jacqueline Van Gorp; sister, Katherine Patterson; husband, William Schworm and dearest friend, Holly Heer. She is survived by her son, Jerry (Terri) Van Gorp; niece, Connie (Dean) Garmoe; stepdaughter, Sally (Hank) Epstein; stepson, David Schworm; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several dear friends. Memorials may be made to directed to the Story County Animal Shelter or DELTA Animal Organization. Rasmusson Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
