Bonnie Louise (Roop) Sult of Maxwell, Iowa, daughter of Virgil Albert and Chloe Faun (Brown) Roop, was born March 5, 1936, on a farm outside Livonia (Putnum County), Missouri. She was one of four children. The family moved to Grinnell, Iowa in 1942. Bonnie graduated from Grinnell High School in May 1954.
On July 12, 1954, Bonnie was married to Russell Lloyd Sult of Gilman, Iowa. Russell was a sailor in the U.S. Navy and the couple lived in Virginia. The couple lived briefly in Iowa, before moving to California. They also lived in Utah, Arizona, and New Jersey before they settled back in Iowa. She enjoyed the adventure of travel and living in new states. The couple had 3 children; Russell "Rusty" and David (Anette) were born in Utah; Wayne (Michelle) was born in Iowa.
Bonnie worked at the Naval Shipyard in Virginia, the phone company in Iowa, Chrysler Corporation in California, U.S. Forest Service in Utah, Sult Construction in Iowa, Colt Industries in Arizona, The Atlantic City Press and Atlantic City Magazine in New Jersey, Corporate Benefit Services of America, and Russell Construction Custom Carpentry in Iowa.
Bonnie died May 8, 2024, at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, Iowa. She was 88 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Russell, her sister, Mildred (William) Sevenbergen of Newton, Iowa, her sister, Connie (Rob) Wilson of Winterset, Iowa and her brother, Eugene Roop of Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Bonnie is survived by her sons: Russell "Rusty" Sult of Mesa, Arizona, David (Anette) Sult of Maxwell, Iowa, and Wayne (Michelle) of Cleveland, New Jersey; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; her sister in-law, Darlene Roop of Hot Springs, Arkansas; numerous nieces and nephews.
Bonnie has been cremated and she has been laid to rest next to Russell at the Maxwell Cemetery in Maxwell, Iowa. A celebration of her life will be 1-3 p.m. Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the Maxwell American Legion (77 Main Street) in Maxwell.
