Brenda Lea Sowers, 61 of Fernald, died Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.

Brenda was born July 19, 1961, in Des Moines, Iowa the daughter of Ira Walter and Mary Helen (Clement) Link. She graduated from Maxwell High School in 1979 and later that year on July 28, she was united in marriage to Dan "Butch" Sowers at the Maxwell United Methodist Church. Brenda worked 21 years for Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames before going back to school to earn her degree as a Registered Nurse. She graduated in 2014 and went to work for Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Brenda decided to become a traveling nurse and went all over the United States helping at different hospitals. She loved her career, but always looked forward to coming back home to be with her dogs and family, especially her grandchildren.

Brenda had a very large personality. She loved meeting new people and traveling to different national parks so she could add another stamp to her book. Brenda enjoyed playing sports, doing crafts and scrapbooking. She especially loved living in the country and taking walks with the dogs.

Brenda is survived by her husband, Butch of Fernald; her children, Brandon (Nicole) Sowers of Plattsburg, MO and Dana (Tim) Huff of Des Moines; her grandchildren: Teagan, Harper, Blakely, Monroe and Bridger Sowers, Olivia, Eleanor and Theodore Huff; her mother, Mary Link of Altoona; and her siblings: Kevin (Sharon) Link of Bondurant, Gary Link of Mingo and Linda Link of Polk City. She was preceded in death by her father, Ira Link.

A celebration of Brenda's life will be 1-4 p.m. Sunday, October 2, 2022, at the Willow Brook Barn (408 Progress Drive) in Colo. Burial will be at a later date at Murphy Cemetery in rural Nevada.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family for their use to be determined at a later date.
