Brian Ruel Powell, 42 of Roland, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2020. Brian was born May 2, 1977, in Ames the son of William Lester Powell and Patricia Kay Stuart. He worked for Ball Excavating and Plumbing and as a farm hand. Brian loved to be outdoors, especially to camp or fish. Heavy metal music was his favorite and he was known to be able to fix anything. Brian also liked collecting, mushroom hunting and riding dirt bikes and four wheelers. Brian is survived by his father, William "Bill" (Cindy) Powell of Nevada; his mother, Patricia "Pat" (David) Veeder of Roland; his daughter, Rebecca Powell of Roland; his sister, Monica Powell of Newton; his maternal grandmother, Carol Avey of Nevada; his step-sisters: Lisa Jenkins of St. Joseph, MO, Lori (Anthony) Carskaden of Toledo and Jessica (Darius) Jones of Ames; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lyle and Irma Powell; his maternal grandfather, Ralph Avey and a cousin, Cassidy Powell. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in memory of Brian. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
