Bryce Thomas
Cacek
August 14, 1943 – October 30, 2025
Bryce Thomas Cacek Sr., 82, of Nevada, Iowa, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with lung cancer.
Bryce was born on August 14, 1943, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Roy and June Cacek. He graduated from Lincoln Technical High School in Des Moines in 1961. Shortly thereafter, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1966, stationed at China Lake, California.
In 1964, Bryce married the love of his life, Susan (Spidle), in Des Moines. Together they shared 60 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and devotion to family.
Following his military service, Bryce built a long and respected career as a maintenance technician, retiring from Wells Fargo in 2003. He was a proud veteran and more recently volunteered with the American Legion Post 48 in Nevada, Iowa.
A lifelong learner and avid reader, Bryce continually sought to expand his knowledge, even teaching himself to speak Czech. He was a passionate history buff and family genealogist, often tracing and sharing stories of his ancestry. His creativity was evident in his many hobbies, including woodworking, photography, and watercolor painting.
Bryce found great joy in nature, whether tending his garden, spending time outdoors, or simply appreciating the world around him. A devoted Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers fan, he never missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite teams.
He is survived by his beloved wife Susan; sons Bryce Jr. and Roy; half-sister Linda; half-brother David; and grandchildren Matthew and Claire.
He was preceded in death by his father Roy, mother June, brothers Kenneth and Raymond and half-sister Kathleen.
Bryce will be remembered for his curiosity, kindness, humor, and the love he gave so freely to those around him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bryce's name to the American Legion Post 48 in Nevada, Iowa, or to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Bryce and his arrangements. Condolences may be shared with the family online at www.rasmussonfh.com.
