Carl William Allen, 81, of Nevada, died Monday, January 25, 2021, at his home in Nevada. Carl was born January 14, 1940, in Nevada, the son of John Dorr Allen and Dorothy A. Day. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1958 and attended one year at Iowa State University. On August 27, 1961, Carl was united in marriage to Judith Mae Sande in Ames. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1962 and served until his honorable discharge in 1965. Carl worked 36 years for the Iowa DOT in road design and in retirement he drove the courtesy shuttle for Wilson Toyota in Ames. Carl was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada and was very active with the Nevada Historical Society, serving on the board when Evergreen Lane was acquired. He was an avid reader and supported the Nevada Public Library. Carl enjoyed collecting coins, paper money and golfing. Carl is survived by his wife, Judy of Nevada; his daughter, Lori (Jim) Olson of Nevada; his son, Matthew Allen (Sue Whitaker) of Roland; his grandchildren: Tyler Olson, BJ (Samantha) Whitaker, Katie Harrington (Shane Sweitzer) and Matthew Whitaker; his great-grandchildren: Tucker and Kennedy Whitaker, Isaac, Samuel and Georgia Harrington and Adam Sweitzer. He was preceded in death by his parents. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Carl's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nevada Public Library or the Nevada Historical Society. Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
