Carl Lee Vander Wal, 89 of Nevada, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Carl was born October 23, 1934, in Pella, Iowa, the son of Jake Van Der Wal and Delia Wielaard. He was united in marriage to Wilma Stouwie on December 3, 1954, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Carl raced stock cars from 1958 until 1972. Together, Carl and Wilma attended many flea markets, fairs and festivals selling merchandise.

Carl's faith was very important to him. He was a member of Trinity Christian Reformed Church in Ames and attended the Cowboy Church in Newton when he could.

Carl is survived by his children, Joyce (Stanley) Elliott of Nevada, Dale (Mari) Vander Wal of Maxwell and Brian Vander Wal of Nevada; his grandchildren, Patricia (Jeremy) Hapes, Jason (Kristi) Elliott, Brenda (Galen) Bessey, Jesse (Stephanie) Vander Wal, Jake (Hannah) Vander Wal, Destiny (Dustin) Walker-Woods, Jacob (Emily), Kayla and Kyle Vander Wal; 17 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; and his brothers, Marvin (Vickie) Van Der Wal of Oskaloosa and Jerry Vander Wal of Concord, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Wilma in 2020.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2024, at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 250 W E Avenue, in Nevada. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Light refreshments will be served after the service.
