Obituary

Carolyn Jean Bishop, 68, died 9 March 2020 under the care of Suncrest Hospice at Accura Healthcare of Ogden, Iowa. Carolyn was born 16 December 1951 in Nevada, Iowa. She grew up in Maxwell, Iowa, the middle child between two brothers. She attended Maxwell schools, graduating from Maxwell Community High School in 1971. After high school, Carolyn attended Des Moines Area Community College, where she developed a love of learning, earning high marks, and expanding her skills. She continued attending community college classes at Southeast Community College in Lincoln, Nebraska, before eventually returning to Des Moines Area Community College for yet more learning. Carolyn worked for many years at Iowa State University, serving the residents of the dormitory system. Carolyn raised her son James Bernard Bishop in Maxwell, Ames, and Lincoln. As a young teen, Carolyn was baptized into the Maxwell Christian Church. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Ames First Ward, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Carolyn called herself a "crafting lady". Her plentiful supplies for knitting, quilting, embroidery, sewing, and anything involving a hot glue gun moved with her around the mid-West. Carolyn enjoyed collecting family photos and memorabilia. Her recipe collection and skill in creating good food were enjoyed by family, friends and neighbors throughout her life. An extensive collection of Teddy bears adorned her apartment walls. Fresh oxygen came into her home via many and varied houseplants. The Peace Lily became a perpetual favorite. When Carolyn chose the music, it was almost always an Elvis rendition. Veterinary services people throughout the world had Carolyn's careful TV attention. Carolyn raised daily and weekly calendar planning to an art form. She kept everything in pencil, "just in case". Carolyn is survived by her son James (Brandi) of Ireton, Iowa, two grandchildren, Kammi and Dustin, and by her two brothers Charles (Nancy) of Las Vegas, Nevada; and Leo of Ames. Carolyn had two final wishes, that there be no funeral and that her ashes be scattered "on a mountain in Ireland." In lieu of flowers, Carolyn asked that we be good to each other and to our beautiful planet Earth. Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements. www.rasmussonfh.com
