Cathorine Rozella "Kate" Harris, age 85, passed away Friday, May 8, 2026, at Trinity Center at Luther Park in Des Moines.

Kate was born on April 14, 1941, in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph Emmet and Mary "Alice" (Nicodemus) Pace. She graduated from Maxwell High School in 1959. Kate was a member of the former Maxwell Christian Church and served as president and secretary of the UAW. For many years, she showed horses at the Iowa State Fair, most memorable was her horse "Dakota Fever".

Kate is survived by her sons, Larry (Robin) Harmon of New Albin and Randy Harmon of Des Moines; her grandchildren, Crystal (Travis) Moyer, Bobbie Jo (Tommy), Ellie, and Abby (Rhett); her great-grandchildren, Madeline, Henry, Amelia and Josephine; her brother, Don (Sheryl) Stanfel and her sister, Darlene "Dode" Higginbottom. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sisters, Sharon Ruth Pace (in infancy) and Arlene Stanfel.

A service will be held at a later date. Kate will be laid to rest at the Maxwell Cemetery in Maxwell.
