Obituary

Cathy May Sobotka, 70 of Sheldahl, passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE.

Cathy was born July 23, 1953, in Leon, IA, the daughter of Earl Rex and Juanita May (Doolittle) Snethen. She graduated from Lamoni High School in 1971, then attended beauty school. Cathy was united in marriage to Paul Michael Sobotka on November 3, 1972, one year after their first date, in Leon, IA. To this union, one daughter was born, Barbara.

Cathy attended the Cambridge United Methodist Church in Cambridge. She dedicated many years of her life to the insurance industry, where she served as a benefits provider, claims and credential processor, and appeals representative. Beyond her professional pursuits, Cathy found joy in the art of quilting, weaving creativity into every stitch. An avid reader, she found adventure and entertainment in the pages of countless books and she enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley hits. Cathy's love extended beyond her personal interests to her family, and she was especially devoted to supporting her two granddaughters in all their activities. Whether watching games and matches in person or through the convenience of live streaming, Cathy's heart swelled with pride as she cheered for Brooklyn, Brenna, and the Bombers.

Cathy's home was a haven of warmth and hospitality, a reflection of her generous spirit. Even in retirement, she remained deeply connected with friends, finding joy in shared moments and creating lasting memories. She touched the hearts of many through her love, acts of kindness, encouragement, and genuine connection she made with the people she met.

Cathy is survived by her husband, Paul of Sheldahl; her daughter, Barbara (Mark) Baumgardner of Slater; her grandchildren, Brooklyn, and Brenna; and her brothers, Tony (Kandi) Snethen of Lamoni, Michael (Pati) Snethen of Elgin, TX, and Mark Snethen (Jill) of Portsmouth. She was preceded in death by her parents.
