Charles "Chuck" Maynard Wilson of Ankeny, formerly of Nevada, died Friday, February 4, 2022 in Polk City, Iowa. A visitation will be Friday, February 11, 2022 at 5 p.m. with the memorial service starting at 6 p.m. at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada with Pastor David Burling officiating.
Charles "Chuck" was born May 5, 1942, in Carthage, Missouri, to Ernest and Gladys (Olson) Wilson. He grew up in Jewell, Iowa, where he graduated from High School in 1960. He worked at Iowa State University while serving in the Air National Guard. He worked for General Telephone Company for 34 years, retiring in 1999. It was there that he met a co-worker, Martha (Sweeney) Sampson, and they were married December 24, 1983. Following his first retirement, he went on to work seven more years for Wells Fargo in Des Moines.
He was a talented woodworker, helping build their home in rural Nevada, including all of the finish work. He also built several pieces of beautiful furniture. Some of his other hobbies included fishing and building and flying radio control air planes. His love for flying took them to several air shows over the years and he then decided to take flying lessons. He enjoyed travel as well, he and Martha took several trips with friends and family over the years to Alaska, Butchart Gardens, Mackinac Island, Washington DC, and many bus trips to Branson. He enjoyed attending all his grandchildren's many sporting events and was an active member of the Lutheran Churches in the communities where he lived.
Charles is survived by his wife, Martha of Ankeny, daughters Chelly (Dennis) Toney of Colo, and Cherene (Mike) Sadek of Bemidji, MN. His brother Gary (Tina) Wilson of Edeaton, NC. Also surviving are his step children, Tammy (Gary) Gardner of Nevada, Todd (Carolyn) Sampson of West Des Moines, and Sara Sampson of Story City and his Puppy Piper. Eleven grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and his granddaughter Emma and his Puppy Riley.
Burial will be at a later date.
