Obituary

C. Romaine Ranger, 93 of Nevada, passed away Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames following a brief illness.

Romaine was born January 22, 1931, in Dows, IA, the son of C. William and Bertha (Espeland) Ranger. He graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1949 and was united in marriage to Darlene Grace Hudson on July 16, 1961, in Webster City. Romaine attended Iowa State University in pursuit of a biology degree which led him to a 30-year career as a microbiologist at the National Animal Disease Lab in Ames.

Romaine had many hobbies. He enjoyed gardening, astronomy, photography and learning his family history. He also enjoyed listening to music, radio-controlled airplanes and traveling.

Romaine is survived by his children, C. Michael (Nancy Jane) Ranger of Reserve, MT, Debra Knutson of Ankeny and Dianna (Mike Leonard) Ranger of Norwalk; his 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2018; his son, Robert Knutson; and his sisters, Doris Girouex, Ramona Groenhoff and Phyllis Gorman.

A celebration of Romaine's life will be announced at a later date. Inurnment will be at the Cass Center Cemetery near Webster City.
