Charles "Chuck" William Ray, 77 of Nevada, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2024, at his home in Nevada.
Chuck was born December 12, 1946, in Ames, Iowa, the son of Charles Gardner and Dorothy Jean (Martin) Ray. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1965 and from Ellsworth Community College and attended Iowa State University. Chuck worked 41 years for Alliant Energy, retiring in 2009. While working at Alliant Energy, he earned the Life Saving Award two times. Chuck was united in marriage to Bert Ann Frank on September 22, 1979, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.
Chuck was a devoted member of Memorial Lutheran Church and was active with men's group, ushering, communion and greeting. He loved the outdoors and spent much of his free time hunting and fishing. Chuck was an accomplished woodworker. He was very organized and always wanted to make sure that everyone was taken care of.
Chuck is survived by his wife Bert Ann of Nevada; his children Steven Ray of Boone and Michele (Kevin) Porter of Boone; his stepdaughters Sandi Lancaster (Craig Calhoun) of Nevada and Linda Dawson (Ava Dawson) of Nevada; his sisters Linda Fry of Tampa, FL and Shelley (Andy) Murphy of Hot Springs Village, AR; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law Richard "Dick" Fry; and his son-in-law Rick Dawson.
Chuck's memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2024, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada with Pastor Kathleen Lotz officiating. Family will greet friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the church on Friday. A private burial will be at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.
