Connie Jewel VanNiewaal, 73 of Nevada, died Thursday, May 13, 2021, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
Connie was born January 28, 1948, in Ottumwa, Iowa the daughter of Fred and Dorothy (Carnes) Heminger. On February 7, 1981, she was united in marriage to Bill VanNiewaal in Eldon, Iowa. Connie enjoyed crafts, cooking, and gardening. She especially loved to be with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Connie is survived by her husband, Bill of Nevada; her mother, Dorothy Cox of Ottumwa; her children: Tonnya (Ricky) Griffith of Culman, AL, Teresa Ludwig of Nevada, Terry (Kim) Tarbell of Melbourne, Tammy (David) Vos of Oskaloosa and Jamie (Joel) Wymore of Bellevue, NE; her brother, Kevin (Vicki) Palmer of Ottumwa; her half-brothers, Mark Heminger and Glenn Heminger; her grandchildren: Clairissa Rial, Logan Nolting, Levi Wymore, Aaron Vos, Camryn Ludwig, Ethan Vos, Madison Tarbell, Megan Vos, Mara Tarbell, Kyra Wymore and Makaylie Tarbell; and her great-grandchildren: Tessa Rial, Chet Wymore, Nadine Wymore and Maren Rial. She was preceded in death by her father and a half-brother, John Heminger.
A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, May 16 at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. Cremation will follow with burial at a later date at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
