Darwin E. Berglund, 85, of Madrid, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Darwin was born October 21, 1932, in Madrid, the son of Arvid and Fern (Hivley) Berglund. He attended Madrid Public Schools, graduating in 1950. Darwin worked for Howard Spring at the United Food Market in Madrid, the G.W. York Co. in Madrid and operated Bergy's Standard Station in Madrid before moving to Portland, Oregon where he managed a 44 unit apartment complex. He also worked at McDonald's as their primary maintenance person. Dawin returned to Madrid after his wife Shirley passed away in 1994 where he bought and remodeled a home.
Darwin loved singing and sang in many church choirs in Madrid, Johnston and Portland, Oregon. He also liked singing solos and participating in many special choirs along with many weddings and funerals.
Darwin is survived by three daughters: Mindy (Keith) Tillotson, Lea Ann (Rodger) Murphy and Carla (Jerry) Darrah; his grandchildren: Joshua Darrah, Natalie (Jacob) Morris, Kevin Tillotson, Bari Blanford Jr. and Blake Blanford; along with a host of great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 12, at St. Paul's Church United Church of Christ in Madrid.
