David "Butch" Loney, Sr., 84, of Nevada, Iowa passed away on February 12.
Butch was born on July 14, 1940 in Dubuque, Iowa, the 3rd of 8 children to Kenneth and Gladys (Butler) Loney.
After graduating from Dubuque Senior High School, Butch joined the US Navy, serving from 1958-1961. On September 19, 1959, he married his high school sweetheart, Judy Schulz. Together they had three children: Tracy (Jamie) Rullestad of Nevada, Iowa; David (Kim) Loney of Nevada, Iowa; and Kristina (Greg) Minor of Nevada, Iowa. In 1978, a third daughter joined their family: Angie (Randy) Harmdierks of Albert Lea, Minnesota.
Throughout his career as a professional truck driver, Butch worked for companies such as Kapruan, Pepsi, Mattox Mayflower, Flexsteel, Allied Van Lines, and Crouse Cartage Company. He later became a private business owner of two pallet companies: Butch's Pallets and Pallets & More.
In his free time, Butch loved playing cards with family and friends, roller skating, bowling, and making things with his hands.
Butch was proceeded in death by his father, Ken; mother Gladys; and sister Barb Soley. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Judy; 4 children; 8 grandchildren: Shea (Kyle) Nikkel of Ankeny, Iowa; Kayla (Rusty) Garland of Jewell, Iowa; Ricki (Dustin) Tapp of Cambridge, Iowa; Tucker (Tiffany) Rullestad of Ames, Iowa; Autumn Holmes (Hugh) of Nevada, Iowa; Sydni Loney (Jordan) of Ankeny, Iowa; Lyndsi (Tyler) Sluis of Nevada, Iowa; and Caitlin (Austin) Good of Nevada, Iowa; 14 (soon to be 15) great-grandchildren; 6 siblings: Gerry, Toots (Sonny) Adams, Cork, Jim (Carol), Gus (Nancy), and Bits.
A celebration of life is being planned for a later date.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Rolling Green Village and Suncrest Hospice, who provided such loving care to Butch during the past several months.
