David Byron Christie, 68 of Nevada, died Monday, February 15, 2021, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines. David was born November 23, 1952, in Des Moines, the son of Jack Lester and Catherine (Gardner) Christie. He enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1972 until his honorable discharge in 1975. On September 4, 1988, he was united in marriage to Tami Joan Wohlers at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. David worked for Burke Marketing in Nevada as a maintenance supervisor, retiring in 2007. David was a member of the American Legion in Maxwell. He enjoyed watching old western movies as well as old horror movies, especially Svengoolie. Whether hunting or fishing, if it was outside, David enjoyed it. Above all, he loved to spend time with his friends and family, especially his grandson, Luca. David is survived by his wife, Tami of Nevada; his son, Tyler Christie of Ames; his daughter, Mackenzee (Casey) Sledge of Grimes; his mother, Catherine James of Ames; his grandson, Luca Sledge of Grimes; his sisters, Sue Sheeler of Nevada, and Mary Lou (Rick) Denton of Cambridge; his brothers, Herk (Kaltrina) Christie of South Dakota and Jay (Kesha) Christie of Collins; and his stepmother, Gloria Christie of Collins. He was preceded in death by his father; his brother, Dan Christie; and his stepfather, Ed James. A celebration of David's life will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 23 at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. Face coverings and social distancing are required. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date at Peoria Cemetery near Maxwell. Memorial contributions may be made to the family and the use will be determined at a later date.
