David Jon Gillespie, 42, of Midland, Texas, formerly of Nevada, passed away Friday, September 14, 2018. David was born February 14, 1976, in Des Moines. He was adopted at three days old by Lawrence V. and Doreen F. (McCleary) Gillespie. David graduated from Nevada High School and moved to Texas in 1997. He worked as an independent contractor doing thread inspections on oil rigs. David lived life to the fullest and loved Susan and his little "Katie" and getting to know his biological family. He was energetic, charming, good-hearted, funny, loving, positive, gave great hugs, had an infectious personality and a smile larger than life. David is survived by his mother, Doreen Gillespie of Nevada; his girlfriend, Susan Dunn of Midland, Texas; his daughter, Katherine Paige Gillespie of Midland, Texas; his birthmother, Donna Archer of Altoona; his brother, Eric Jay Gillespie of Urbandale; his half-brothers: Shane O'Neill, Sean O'Neill, Jon Archer and Andrew Archer; and his half-sister, Leah Bentley. He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence; his birthfather, Terence O'Neill; and a half-brother, Jason Archer. A celebration of David's life will be Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 2-6 p.m. at the Hilton-Austin Airport 9515 Hotel Drive, Austin, TX 78719. A visitation will also be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday, October 18, 2018, at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada, Iowa. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 19, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada (1036 7th Street) with Pastor Chris Waddle, officiating. Private burial will be at Greenwood Friends Cemetery in Ankeny. Memorial contributions may be made to Doreen Gillespie, P.O.
