David Joe Hegland, 70 of McCallsburg, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2023.

Dave was born December 30, 1952, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Sherrill Orvis and Rachel Glenn Hegland. He graduated from NESCO High School in 1971 and attended college at DMACC and Iowa State University. On August 2, 1980, Dave was united in marriage to Marsha Jean Faidley in McCallsburg. He spent his entire life farming.

Dave was a member of Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland and the Gilbert Tractor Club. He was a great mechanic and could fix almost anything. That ability led Dave to be a judge for FFA Ag Mechanics at the Iowa State Fair for 20 years. His special interest was antique tractors. He made many friends attending tractor shows and swap meets and horse-trading parts around the country. Dave and Marsha loved to travel, and he was able to visit all 50 states over the course of his life.

Dave had a lifelong love of old-time country music. He enjoyed watching reruns of Gunsmoke and M*A*S*H.

Dave is survived by his wife, Marsha of McCallsburg; his son, Justin Hegland of Story City; his daughter, Becky Hegland of Milwaukee, WI; his sister, Cindy (Scott) Anderson of McCallsburg; his brother-in-law, Bruce Faidley; his sister-in-law, Linda Faidley; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, and several aunts and uncles.

A visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Bergen Lutheran Church (101 W Maple Street) in Roland. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 16, 2023, also at the church with Pastor John Sheahan officiating. The service will be livestreamed at www.facebook.com/bergen.lutheran. Inurnment will follow at East Bergen Cemetery near McCallsburg.
