Dean Harold Harrison, 93 of Nevada, died Thursday, January 13, 2022, at his home in Nevada.
Dean was born May 12, 1928, in Shipley, Iowa the son of Marion and Alma (Dunahoo) Harrison. On August 12, 1948, Dean was united in marriage to Karen June Sesker at the Maxwell Methodist Church. Dean farmed all his life in the Shipley, Nevada, Ames and Zearing areas. Together, Dean and Karen owned and operated Harrison's Haven Nursing home in Nevada for several years.
Dean and Karen enjoyed traveling and wintering at their home in Scottsdale, Arizona for several years. His fondness for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was evident by the way his eyes would light up.
Dean is survived by his four children: Deann (Steve) Zmolek of Solon, Dennis (Mary) Harrison of Nevada, Julie (Aaron) Jones of Ankeny and Lynne (Jerry) Mitchell of Nevada; his ten grandchildren: Terry, Mindi, Tori, Brad, Tonda, Joni, Lyndi, Ryan, Brett and Fionna; twenty-one great-grandchildren; a foreign exchange student, Vali of Chile; two sisters-in-law, Sandy Harrison and Norma Harrison both of Nevada; three brothers-in-law, Wayne (Sherie) Sesker of Forest City, Bruce (Judy) Sesker of Maxwell, and Max Minear of Florida; along with many nieces and nephews. Dean also leaves behind many friends and other relatives.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Karen; and four brothers: James, Wayne, Raymond and Garry.
A celebration of Dean's life will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at the Nevada First United Methodist Church (1036 7th Street) in Nevada. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Face coverings are required while not seated in the sanctuary. Burial will be at a later date at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Nevada FFA Chapter in memory of Dean.
