Obituary

Donald "Bud" Lee Wilson, 92 of Nevada, formerly of Colo, died Monday, November 22, 2021, at Story County Senior Care in Nevada. Bud was born September 7, 1929, in Colo, the son of H. Lee and L. Lorene (Granger) Wilson. He grew up in Colo and helped on the family farm and Wilson Dairy. Bud graduated from Colo High School in 1946 and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1951, serving until his honorable discharge in 1954. On a vacation to Texas, he met Ruth Ann Nervig in 1950 and they were later married on June 12, 1953, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Slater. Bud was the Postmaster of the Colo Post Office from 1959 until he retired in 1995. He was a member of the Colo United Methodist Church, the Colo Masonic Lodge, serving as secretary for 50 years, Eastern Star and the Colo American Legion Post #139. Bud also served as secretary of the Colo School Board for 25 years and recorded local weather for 35 years for the National Weather Service. He also donated countless amounts of blood. In his free time, Bud enjoyed collecting many things, especially coins, stamps, and John Deere tractor toys. He also enjoyed listening to country music and attending jams and was an avid fan of Iowa State Cyclones basketball and football. Bud is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruth of Nevada; his children: Donna (Randy) Flack of Ankeny, John (Vickie) Wilson of Colo and Jeff (Yolanda) Wilson of Ankeny; his sister, Mary Presnall of Nevada; his grandchildren: Derek (Allison) Flack, Adam (Trina) Flack, Renee (Stan) Gelfond, Jordan Wilson, Jacob Wilson, Nathan (Jamie) Wilson, Austin (Julia) Wilson, Kelly (Nick) Tonelli and Kristen Campbell; his great-grandchildren: Natalie, Tyler, Easton, Xander, Sawyer, Cooper, Emma, Ryker, Abram, Corwin, Sophia, Micah, Cameron and Asher; and his sister-in-law, Jane Fideler. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Patty Campbell; his sister, Margaret White; his brothers, Richard "Short" Wilson and Raymond "Heav" Wilson; his brothers-in-law, Glen Presnall and Carroll White; his sisters-in-law, Phyllis Wilson and Ardis Wilson, and his nephew, Carroll Wilson. A visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, November 26, 2021, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. A Masonic service will be at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021, at the Colo United Methodist Church (602 4th Street) in Colo with Pastor Kerrin Kirkpatirck officiating.
