Donald Raymond Groomes, 70 of Nevada, died Friday, June 19, 2020, at his home near Nevada. Don was born December 14, 1949, in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Dale and Hazel (Shaffer) Groomes. Following graduation from Ames High School, he was drafted into the United States Army in 1969 serving during Vietnam until his honorable discharge in 1971. Don was united in marriage to Zereda Marie Weber on March 27, 1987, in Ames. He made his living as a painter and was a co-owner in The Master Painter before retiring in 2012. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Don is survived by his wife, Zereda (Weber) of Nevada; his son, Zack (Whitney) Groomes of Nevada; his grandchildren: Zoey, Izabelle, Barrett, and Loretta; brothers Robert & Tom Groomes, Ron Day and David Day, and extended family John & Cindy Schneiderman, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Don has been cremated and a private gravesite service is planned for a later date. Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
