Donald Dean Overland, 80 of Nevada, died Saturday, December 19, 2020, at Adventhealth Wesley Chapel in Pasco County, Florida. Don was born August 25, 1940, in Ames, the son of Joseph and Eva Maude (Beach) Overland. He graduated from Ames High School in 1958 and was united in marriage to Sandra Jean Lewis on March 7, 1958. Don worked for Iowa Electric Light & Power (now Alliant Energy), retiring as a supervisor. Don and Sandy were part of the Nevada Whirlers Square Dancing group and enjoyed camping at Hickory Grove in Colo. Don built motorcycles and especially loved golfing at Indian Creek Country Club in Nevada. After retiring, he always looked forward to spending winters in Zephyrhills, Florida. Don is survived by his daughter, Jody Overland of Ames; his grandson, Nicholas Stead; and his sister, Mary Jo (Mark Corner) Overland. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his son, Eric Overland; and a brother, Richard "Dick" Overland. A memorial visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. Private burial of cremated remains will be at Palestine Cemetery near Huxley. Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
