Dorothy Arlene Thompson, 94 of Nevada, died Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at Story County Senior Care in Nevada.
Dorothy was born November 15, 1926, in Iowa Center, Iowa the daughter of Ora LeRoy and Lizzie Pearl Stemler. On June 14, 1944, she was united in marriage to Robert Thompson in Ellsworth. Dorothy worked for Donnelly Marketing in Nevada.
Dorothy was a member of the William F. Ball Legion Auxiliary Unit 48 in Nevada. She was a very active volunteer in the Nevada community, cutting coupons for service men, making mittens to donate to the school, sending birthday cards to each resident in the nursing home. She made many crafts that she would share with others. Dorothy was also a volunteer at the Story County Hospital Gift Shop and with the Nevada Community Cupboard.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Sandy Olson, Steve Thompson and Scott "Skinny" (Carol) Thompson all of Nevada; 12 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Sharon Chitty;her great-granddaughter, Olivia Chitty; her two great-grandsons, Blake Johnson and Brayton Shill; her brother, LeRoy Stemler; her sister, Laura Corbin; and her sons-in-law, Vail Olson and John Chitty.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 23, 2021, at Evergreen Memory Gardens Cemetery just north of Nevada. A reception will follow at the William F. Ball Legion Post #48 in Nevada.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nevada American Legion Auxiliary Unit #48.
