*LTC (Ret.) Dwayne Lee Ferguson, 81 of Audubon, passed away Friday, December 20, 2019, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, IA.
Reverend Ferguson was born August 30, 1938, in Knoxville, IA, the firstborn child of Lowell and Vivian Ferguson. He was raised in Des Moines, IA and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1956. He was united in marriage to Janice Sargent Ferguson on October 17, 1959, in Des Moines. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Graceland University in Lamoni, IA, a Master of Divinity Degree from United Theological Seminary in Trotwood, OH, and a Master of Psychotherapy Degree from the University of La Verne in La Verne, CA. Reverend Ferguson served in the ministry for almost 60 years, first as a Pastor at the White Oak Church in Hatfield, MO, then at Ginghamsburg Church in Tipp City, OH, Gladbrook Chapel in Green Mountain, IA, and as a Chaplain in the US Army. After his retirement from the Army, Colonel Ferguson served as the Pastor of Buckingham United Methodist Church in Buckingham, IA and, finally, as Pastor of Audubon United Methodist Church in Audubon, IA.
Colonel Ferguson proudly served in the US Army for 38 years, including serving in Vietnam. Dwayne enjoyed walking in the mall, always searching for sale items, and watching football and golf on television. Above all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Dwayne was preceded in death by his beloved wife Janice, who went to be with the Lord in January 2018. He is survived by his daughter, Faith Anthony of Audubon; his sons: Timothy (Lori) Ferguson of Maryland and Matthew (Rebecca) Ferguson of Washington D.C.; his sisters: Erma (Jake) Stratton and Judy LeWarne of Des Moines; his brothers: Mel (Carol) of Grimes and Mike (Gayle) of Apache, OK; his grandchildren: Jared Anthony and fiancée Jessica, Nicole (DJ) Aleman, Kristen (Sean) McCall, Taylor Ferguson and significant other Aaron Crane, Joshua Ferguson, Emilee Ferguson, Gabriella Ferguson, Preston Ferguson, Nicholas Nieves, Olivia Ferguson, and Addie Ferguson; and his great-grandchildren: Lillian Crane, Felix McCall, Oliver Aleman, Fiona Anthony, Lyla Crane, and great-grandchild number six, expected in March 2020.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 30 at 1PM at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Maxwell (422 First Street). Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Maxwell.
