Elbert Hansel Lowe, 89 of Nevada passed away on September 8, 2023, at Story Medical Senior Care.

Elbert was born to Dillard and Bessie Marie (Whited) Lowe, Sr. on September 10, 1933, in Maxwell where he grew up and attended school at Maxwell, Iowa.

He joined the Army in 1953. On June 11, 1955, he married Mary Bernice Tobin and to this union there were 2 children born.

He was a longtime member of American Legion Post 48.

Elbert worked as a farm hand for many years. He then worked most of his life in construction. The last employment was R. H. Donnelley until they closed and then he retired and started his own mowing and snow removal business. He enjoyed gardening, baking, and visiting with anyone.

He is survived by a son, Rodney (Paula) Lowe and a daughter, Elizabeth (David) Smith both of Nevada. Five grandchildren, Christopher (Kristina) Lowe, Alan Lowe, Andrew (AJ) Wirtz, Matthew (Kasey) Wirtz, Rebecca Smith and four great-grandchildren. A brother Robert (Marilyn) Lowe of Nevada; as well as nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

He is preceded in death by his wife Bernice in 2005, his parents; three brothers, Dillard Jr., Wayne, and Delbert and an infant sister, Zelda.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 13, 2023 from 4:00 to 6:00 p m at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. The funeral service will be Thursday, September 14, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. Burial with military honors will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in rural Nevada.
