Ernest Louis Schaeffer, 67 of Nevada, died Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada.

Ernest was born July 19, 1955, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Ernest Mathias and Doris Ruth (Borges) Schaeffer. He graduated from Ames High School and enlisted in the United States Army. Ernest then attended Lincoln Technical Institute, graduating in 1987 with a degree in Automotive Service and Management.

Ernest was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Nevada. In his early years he was involved in 4-H and enjoyed all different kinds of animals. Ernest loved to tinker and to collect coins.

Ernest is survived by his sisters, Kathy (John) Romitti of Madrid and JoAnn Schaeffer of Roland; his nieces, Melissa (Matt) Pohlman, Kristy Kalkwarf and Kaitlyn (Cody) Scheuermann; his nephew, Jacob Kalkwarf; and his great-nieces, Emily Kalkwarf, Ana Pohlman, Elliott Ann Scheuermann and Emma Scheuermann. He was preceded in death by his parents and numerous aunts and uncles.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2022, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Nevada with Father Rick Dagit officiating.  Family will greet friends beginning at 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
