Ethyleen May Sampson, 94 of Nevada, died Sunday, January 23, 2022, at Story County Senior Care in Nevada.
Ethyleen was born in Rural Roland, Iowa on November 24, 1927, the daughter of Elias Pedar and Magdalena (Annaniason) Johnson. She graduated from Roland High School in 1945 and attended AIB. Ethyleen also completed classes to become a CNA. On March 14, 1948, she was united in marriage to Edward "Glenn" Sampson at Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland. They were farmers in the Nevada/Roland area until their retirement. She continued to provide lunches during harvest for many years. In 2020 she was proud to receive the Iowa Heritage Farm Award, this meant a lot to her.
Ethyleen and Glenn owned and operated the Rocket Inn in Roland in the 1960's. Ethyleen volunteered many years as a resident advocate at Story County Senior Care in Nevada. She also worked as a home health aide. She spent time volunteering & supporting the Nevada Historical Society and the Senior Center. Most of Ethyleen's life was spent as a farm wife, enjoying the outdoors.
Ethyleen was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, participating in activities there. She enjoyed being in card club, activities at the Nevada Sr Center and embroidery. Ethyleen especially loved family events and supporting her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in all their activities. There are lots of memories with her baking, playing cards, watching a ball game or livestock show and enjoying her humor. She will be remembered for her kringla that she baked and loved to share.
Ethyleen is survived by her children, Doug (Diana) Sampson of Nevada and Rebecca Miller (Larry Moore) of Ames; her grandchildren: Megan (Rob) Toney, Todd (Laura) Sampson, Amy Sampson and Cory Sampson; and her great-grandchildren: Jon, Autmn, Ellie, Dylan, Dereck, Brenden, Kody and Tyler. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her grandson, Seth Miller; her sisters: Agnes Houser, Ruth Johnson and Jeannette Johanson; and her brothers: Earl, Julias, Marion and Herbert Johnson.
A visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan 26th at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan 27th at Memorial Lutheran Church (701 11th Street) in Nevada with Pastor Kathleen Lotz officiating. Burial will be at Roland Cemetery in Roland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Lutheran Church, Nevada Community Historical Society or the Nevada Senior Center.
