ELKHART - E. Fern Mohr, 89, of Elkhart, died Sunday, August 29, 2010 at the Bright Kavanaugh House on Easton. Fern was born March 24, 1921 at Macksburg, Iowa, the daughter of Omar and Lena (Campbell) Simpson. She was united in marriage to Dwight E. Mohr on October 7, 1938 in Winterset, Iowa. Dwight preceded Fern in death on January 30, 2008. Fern was a nurse's assistant and had worked at Mercy Hospital for 23 years. Fern was affiliated with the Ankeny Baptist Church. Fern is survived by one son: Dennis (Elsie) Mohr of Bondurant, Iowa; two daughters: Mary Lou Higginbottom of Ankeny, Iowa, Patricia (Wayne) Longnecker of Cambridge, Iowa; a daughter-in-law: Juanita Mohr of Des Moines, Iowa; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; and a sister: Edna Barnes of Creston, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dwight; a son, George Mohr; an infant daughter, Janet Sue; one great granddaughter: Amanda Rae Lesher; a sister, Marie Simpson; two brothers: her twin brother, Vern Simpson, and Earl Simpson; and a son-in-law, Fred Higginbottom. Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at the Ankeny Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Elkhart Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Memorials may be made to the Bright Kavanaugh House. The Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell is in charge of arrangements.
